Daniel Thompson was born in Jacksonville, Illinois in July of 1945. He is a 1972 graduate of Southern Illinois University’s (SIUE) English and History programs. Following a thirty year career as an airport operations manager and department head at American Airlines’ Ft. Worth, Texas headquarters he followed his grandmother’s lead on family roots of his Scotch – Irish ancestors. Genealogy became a passion as he traced his Thompson origins back to 11th century Scotland in the seaside settlement of Dumbarton on the western shore and across the Irish Sea as they fled to Ireland and took roots in County Antrim near Belfast.
While finding the path of his ancestors who came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and down the Scotch – Irish Trail (Pennsylvania Wagon Road) he found compelling family sagas of the Scotch – Irish culture. During the period of 2002 and 2011 he wrote and self published four historic fiction novels, The Scot – Irish Experience, Mystic Highland Legend, An Irish Mermaid Tale and Caron Brannan – Bound Boy of Belfast centering on families that came to settle in Greene and Morgan Counties in Illinois.
